It looks like paint portrait on paper is too normal and not eye-catching anymore. To get more attention, California-based artist Russell Powell creates stunningly realistic portraits on an unconventional surface – his own hand. This unusual canvas – textured and creased surface, not only doesn’t deter him from adding intricate details but helps to add dramatic shading that gives the paintings a three-dimensional feel. Once Russell has completed a portrait, he hand stamped his work on to paper to records his work in a permanent way. You probably will think that doesn’t sound too difficult. However, to successfully stamp paint on paper, the artist has to paint quickly enough that the medium doesn’t dry. Moreover, since it is painted on artist’s hands, which means all those stamping works have Russell’s unique fingerprints, which make those images more unique and originated.
