Walking Bike: The Bike With Spider Legs

Inspired by Theo Jansen’s remarkable Strandbeest, Californian art and engineering collective Carv began their crazy technical adventure – walking bike in 2014. The blike employs the same glorious principles of physics found in Jansen’s creatures. The whole project starts with a 3D-printed model of what the device might look like.
And the model soon attracted several craftsmen who started to spend 3 hours a night from Monday to Wednesday each week. After seven months, 700+ man-hours work and over 400 custom made parts, the bike finally come together. Pedalling the bike powers four walking legs in the rear. It’s not very efficient, but you will receive insane amounts of hipster street cred for showing up at the coffee shop on this thing. However, we have no clue where, when can you purchase it.

Sandwichbike: the Funkiest Build-it-yourself Wooden Bike

Sandwichbike bicycle by Dutch designer Basten Leijh is an interesting bicycle made of two wooden panels which was inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly. To make it a build-it-yourself product, Basten Leijh use two weather coated frames of layered plywood to replace the welded frame. Bonded together by ‘smart cylinders’, the frames and components become a durable rock-solid piece of technology. The Sandwichbike fits in a small, flat package, so it can be delivered by post. Just like IKEA furniture, the package also includes tools you need to assemble the bike. Pretty cool!

Treat Yourself: Candy Bike, the Sweetest Bike on the World

Designed by Britta Hope, this Candy bike is probably the sweetest bike on the world. Hope created the bike as part of her 3D design class, where students were given Huffy bikes and told to create a vessel that delivers a message. Hope chose the message ‘treat yourself’ and created a bike that is made out of candy – from the handlebars to the wheels. As a cupcake delivery vehicle, Hope finished it with a giant cupcake carrier on the back! So Yummy! [source]

Unusual Bike Concept: Write a Bike

Unusual Bike Concept: Write a Bike
You’ve probably seen a lot of variations of bikes already while the bike presented in this post is absolutely unique! Swiss art director Juri Zaech came up with a witty and original series of bikes. Their frames are created in form of elegant inscriptions of names of their owners. Series is called “Write a bike”. That is a really creative idea. But right now, it is only a concept but designer is working on a way to produce a prototype of one of the bikes.

The only things I am worrying is its functionality. It does look good, but think about what a real bike need, pedal? chain? braker? Not sure how the design will look like with those stuff added.
