Remember when we first swooned over Ramón Ramos’s mind-blowing work back in 2022? Well, this Spanish-born, Vancouver-based artist has been incredibly busy since then, and I just had to share an update on his latest geometric paper art.
If you’re new to his work, Ramón creates the most mesmerizing wall-mounted 3D paper sculptures you’ll ever see. He literally builds shifting fields of color and light out of hundreds of tiny, hand-folded paper units. What really blows my mind is his process. He starts with a modular system—think little paper hexagons, cubes, and curved kite shapes. He cuts and creases every single piece by hand, then sets them on the wall at very specific, slight angles.
The way he plays with color in his geometric paper art is pure magic. He pushes gradients across the grid, so a shiny copper mirror card effortlessly fades into an earthy olive green. When you look at it straight on, these scattered lattices suddenly resolve into perfect, crisp circles. Because the delicate folds catch real-world shadows, the flat paper transforms into a gorgeous pixelated relief. It feels like he’s executing a precise digital code, but it’s all done completely by hand.
It’s no surprise his 3D paper sculptures are now popping up everywhere, from swanky gallery exhibitions across North America to high-end commissions for a luxury hotel in Dubai and a top-tier architecture firm.
