For over two decades, Peter Szucsy spent his days creating dark, imaginative monsters for the video game world. As an art director and artist, he brought to life all sorts of bizarre digital creatures. But after 25 years behind a screen, he felt it was time for a change. “I have made many creatures in the virtual world… but a few years ago I felt it is about time to create something different,” he says.
So, he left his computer behind and took his ideas into the real world—literally. The result? A fascinating collection of steampunk spiders made from vintage watch parts, old cameras, and even parts of medical equipment. Each of these intricate, eight-legged creations looks like something out of a sci-fi fantasy.
Peter lives and works in Budapest, where he hunts through local flea markets each week for rare and unique materials. He’s especially drawn to antique timepieces and mechanical odds and ends, but he’s careful not to use anything that might belong in a museum. Once he’s gathered his pieces, he returns to his studio and starts crafting—carefully assembling each steampunk spider by hand, piece by piece.
His work doesn’t stop at spiders either. Peter’s has expanded his tiny metal world with creations like crabs and scorpion. If you’re curious to see what he makes next, you can follow him on Instagram, where he shares his latest creations. He’s also opened an online shop, in case you want to own one of these amazing pieces of vintage watch parts art.
