We’re always on the hunt for unique architecture concepts, and you absolutely have to check out Sweetbird North. Snøhetta just unveiled this gorgeous eight-story project, and it is seriously shaking up the world of Miami Design District architecture. Instead of just another standard block, they’ve created a stunning 120,000-square-foot mixed-use office building that perfectly blends premium workspaces with highly walkable, ground-floor retail.
What really caught my eye is the building’s jaw-dropping exterior. To deal with Miami’s strict hurricane codes, Snøhetta didn’t settle for purely utilitarian concrete. Instead, they wrapped the structure in a custom, sculptural stainless-steel mesh veil. This incredible feature acts as a sunshade, guardrail, and storm screen all in one. It’s a brilliant way to turn strict safety regulations into a standout piece of Miami Design District architecture.
But it’s not just about the shiny, faceted facade! Snøhetta absolutely nailed the indoor-outdoor connection. Every single office floor features its own planted terrace. They start with lush tropical greenery on the lower levels and transition to breezy, light-loving bougainvillea as you go up. It’s so refreshing to see a mixed-use office building that actually lets you step outside, get some fresh air, and enjoy the climate rather than trapping you in an airtight box.
Down at street level, the warm metal columns and deep canopies make the retail space feel incredibly inviting and pedestrian-friendly. I absolutely love seeing this neighborhood grow up—literally and figuratively.
