Elephant Walk: Stunning Macro Sculpture Carved Out of Pencils

Pencil carving is not a new thing any more. We have been featuring many of stunning sculptures carved out of pencil on our site. However, we have to introduce you the “Elephant Walk” by Cindy Chinn to you otherwise we won’t call ourselves a good web explorer and digger. Said as the most elaborate design by Chinn, the Elephant Walk for Epiphany Elephant Museum, has a whole family of elephants across the Serengeti carved out of pencils. The whole project took a few days and here is the detail description from Chinn “Using the wood of a pencil I carved the tree tops, and the trunks are made from the graphite lead. Then I scored the wood of the pencil to create the look of grass. Elephants are carved out of different pencils and the last, I put them together.” Get impressed by Chinn’s work? Not sure since when, pencil tip carving has become a trend. We have featured many amazing works about pencil tip sculpture and today we will introduce you another talented artist Jasenko Đorđević who has developed an incredible craft carving intricate sculptures from this unconventional material. Using X-acto knife and tiny chisel, the Bosnian artist creates their overall form, implies texture, and even carves tiny words into the thin stick of graphite. And the result is stunning. It is really impressive to see Đorđević transforms the tips of pencils into small works of art, such as flowers, animals, and portraits, all of which have to be magnified to fully appreciate the minute details.

Incredible Pencil Lead Sculptures Carving by cerkahegyzo

Not sure since when pencil carving becomes a trend. First we have some stunning miniature sculptures on pencil tip by Dalton Ghetti, then we have Hungarian artist and deviantART user cerkahegyzo manages to produce incredibly detailed sculptures by carving on pencil lead. Cerkahegyzo says his work is inspired by Dalton Ghetti, and now it has become a hobby and form of relaxation for him. Unlike Dalton’s carving is usually on pencil tip, cerkahegyzo’s work usually uses the middle part of the pencil body and create some complicated and delicate sculptures. The tools cerkahegyzo use are pretty simple: needles, razor blades, sandpaper, files, polishing stones and all varieties of pencils (e.g., HB, B, 2B, 4B), while the result is simply stunning and make the eyes wander back and forth. Below is a small collection of cerkahegyzo’s work and you can find more on his deviantART profile. via: [twistedsifter]
