Have you ever looked at a head of broccoli and thought, “Yeah, that looks like a dense, mysterious forest”? Well, Scottish artist David Gilliver certainly has. Through his ongoing Little People series, he uses his incredible eye for miniature photography to transform ordinary everyday objects, food, and pop-culture staples into whimsical, pint-sized adventures.

The secret to this long-running collection is a cast of tiny figurines standing just 2cm tall. By placing them in oversized environments, David completely flips our sense of scale on its head. Under his macro lens, a simple plastic bag easily passes for a massive arctic iceberg, and a melting ice cream cone suddenly feels like a full-blown natural disaster. It is hilarious, clever, and deeply imaginative.

A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, David Gilliver specializes in macro photography and long-exposure light painting. We have been massive fans of his work since the early days of Inspiration Grid, and his unique approach to the Little People series is still just as fresh and inventive today as it was years ago. He really proves that you don’t need a massive canvas to make a huge impact—sometimes, a tiny bit of perspective is all it takes to find magic in the mundane.
