Have you ever looked at a massive skyscraper or a historic monument and thought, “Hey, that looks exactly like a giant water faucet”? If you are artist Rich McCor, that is precisely how your brain works. Known to his massive online community as Paperboyo, this incredibly creative photographer has figured out how to turn the entire world into his own personal playground.

His method is brilliantly simple yet mind-bendingly clever. He takes hand-crafted, black paper silhouettes, holds them up against iconic global architecture, and snaps a photo at just the right angle. Suddenly, a rushing forest waterfall transforms into a spooky ghost’s robe, an old historic steeple becomes a witch’s hat, and a curved glass skyscraper turns into flowing blue water pouring straight out of a faucet! What makes this playful paper cutout art so incredibly satisfying is that it is almost entirely analog. There is very little digital editing involved—just a sharp eye, perfect alignment, and a whole lot of imagination.

What started out back in 2015 as a fun excuse to explore London has since exploded into a massive global adventure. Artist Rich McCor has now traveled all over the world, releasing a hit book and capturing fresh, hilarious optical illusions that remind us all to look at our surroundings a little differently. It is the perfect proof that spectacular art doesn’t require high-tech gear—sometimes, all you need is a pair of scissors and a great idea. Which of these surreal transformations is your favorite?
