Have you ever taken a stroll through the woods and felt like you were being watched by something tiny and magical? Well, the latest winners of the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition just proved that the forest floor is way cooler than we realize. The “World of Fungi” category is basically a VIP pass into a miniature universe.

The first-place shot by Tony North, titled “Amethyst Deceivers,” is an absolute dream. It features two glowing purple mushrooms and a tiny fly that looks like it’s crashing a fairy party. It’s so sharp and vibrant; it honestly makes you want to shrink down and hang out there for a while.

Then there’s Łukasz Kiełtyka’s “Painting Autumn,” which took second place. It’s all golden light and misty vibes—less like a photo and more like a classical painting of a single Russula mushroom. Third place went to Guizhong Guo for “A Warm Family,” showing three little fungi huddled together. It’s surprisingly wholesome for something growing out of the dirt!

From the neon green of a “Parrot Waxcap” to the trippy, alien-like “Slime Moulds,” these award-winning shots remind us to look a little closer at the ground. These fungi photos aren’t just about biology; they’re about the quiet, hidden magic happening right under our feet. Nature really is the best artist, isn’t it?
