There’s something magical about coming home from years of traveling and creating a space that feels like a scrapbook of everywhere you’ve been. That’s exactly what happened when a globe-trotting client teamed up with NOA to reimagine her attic apartment in Innsbruck. The goal? Turn it into Omarama — a name borrowed from Māori meaning “space of light” — and a perfect fit for a traveler’s haven filled with stories, treasures, and, of course, epic Alpine views.
This top-floor flat already had good bones: about 1,450 square feet, tons of sunlight pouring in from three sides, and a staircase that leads straight up to a rooftop terrace (yes, please). NOA’s team studied the layout like a puzzle, rearranging spaces to follow the natural path of the sun. Morning light streams into the entry and home office, making waking up feel a little more poetic, while the rest of the apartment opens up as the day unfolds.
NOA’s founder, Lukas Rungger, said it best: every project tells a story — and this one needed to weave in the client’s own memories. So paintings, handcrafted pieces, and sculptures collected across Asia and Oceania became part of the design DNA. They even shaped where certain colors and finishes landed.

The living area feels like the cozy heart of the home, centered around a super-inviting Tufty-Time sofa by B&B Italia. It’s one of those couches that practically begs you to flop down and daydream about your next adventure. The whole space plays with a black-and-white palette, sprinkled with saffron yellow like little drops of sunshine. Dark materials — think black quartzite and inky oak — frame the views instead of competing with them, so your eyes are always drawn toward the Alps or the client’s collected treasures.

Even the kitchen gets in on the drama, with two sleek black islands tucked under sloped ceilings. Above them, soft white rice-paper lanterns float like little moons, adding contrast to the bold surroundings. Around the dining area, black slatted panels break up the walls with clean, graphic lines.

In the end, this NOA Innsbruck apartment makeover truly lives up to its name: Omarama, a bright and soulful light-filled retreat, perfect for a traveler finally ready to land.
