Have you ever looked at a letter and seen a whole garden hidden inside? That’s exactly how I feel when I dive into the world of Spun Inthawong. Based in the vibrant heart of Bangkok, Spun is an artist who doesn’t just draw letters—she grows them.
Her signature floral lettering art is a breathtaking mix of winding vines, sun-kissed fruits, and delicate blossoms. What makes her work so special is the balance. Even though each letter is packed with intricate detail, you never lose the “shape” of the character. It’s like a secret narrative tucked into every curve and crossbar.
Spun’s journey is just as inspiring as her art. She actually started out as a self-taught artist back in 2015! Since then, she’s leveled up her craft through formal studies in Typography and Graphic Design at the London College of Communication. She even snagged a prestigious ISTD Award from the International Society of Typographic Designers in 2017.
When you look closely, you can see that beautiful bridge between hand-painted textures and digital precision. She often starts with traditional watercolors, layering those soft, organic textures before refining them. The result? A style of botanical typography that feels both timeless and totally fresh.
Whether it’s a tiny berry or a sprawling petal, Spun’s work reminds us that design doesn’t have to be rigid—it can be expressive, playful, and full of life. It’s the kind of art that makes you want to slow down and smell the roses (or, in this case, the ink!).
