When it comes to fitness, the journey is often more psychological than physical. This inspired a fresh Kellogg’s Special K redesign by Swetha Baruah at the MIT Institute of Design. By diving into how packaging design influences users, the project highlights a common gap: while portion control and exercise are vital for success, current boxes often hide this information in fine print.
Traditionally, “diet food” aesthetics have leaned toward being subtle and serious. However, a lack of visual excitement can often lead to a lack of consistency. This concept challenges that norm by introducing a bright, synchronous color palette. These attractive hues do more than just stand out on a shelf; they are designed to keep the user motivated and engaged throughout their routine.
The project effectively balances professional health standards with a sense of playfulness. By shifting the focus toward a more vibrant user experience, the design transforms a standard box of weight management cereal into a source of daily inspiration.
Beyond just the food itself, the concept emphasizes the necessity of a workout regime. It moves away from the “quiet” look of traditional health foods and moves toward a design language that celebrates energy and progress.
