Forget those moody, minimalist coffee shops where everyone whispers – Voyager Craft Coffee’s newest spot in San José is a loud, proud explosion of color. Designed by the creative team at Studio BANAA, this 1,000-square-foot micro-café design feels less like a standard java joint and more like a walk-through art gallery inspired by 80s Memphis style and a touch of Pee-wee’s Playhouse.

To make this compact space pop, founders Dane Bunton and Nastaran Mousavi treated the interior like a giant 3D collage. Taking a page out of Matisse’s book, they layered textures and vibrant hues to create a maximalist environment that feels huge despite its tiny footprint. The star of the show? A sculptural, pink perforated coffee bar that curves through the room like a piece of functional art.

Everywhere you look, there’s a playful detail to catch your eye. Scalloped light fixtures hang below neon squiggle LEDs, while wavy window ledges and custom blue steel tables keep the energy high. Even the walls tell a story—abstracted topographic murals represent the “imaginary lands” of Brazil and Ethiopia, where the shop sources its premium beans.

Studio BANAA proved that you don’t need a massive floor plan to make a massive statement. It’s a patchwork of bold ideas that somehow fits together perfectly, making it the ultimate destination for a high-energy caffeine fix. This isn’t just a place to grab a latte; it’s a full-sensory experience that proves great design knows no size limits!
