Designed by Prototype Design Lab, “The Aldo House” is an impressive residence located in Southern Ontario, Canada. The house is punctured by an atrium that runs the full-length of the house, topped with an equally long skylight. The rest of the building is developed around this central axis, continuing the game of harmonic volumes. Next to this architectonic path appears the most public area with the living room, dining room and kitchen, which opens directly onto a large, expansive back patio. The sculptural staircase leads to the second floor, which is again divided by the naturally-lit atrium. On one side are three identical children’s bedrooms, and on the other side a master suite complete with sitting area and library that overlooks the back yard and space below. A living moss wall and a bamboo garden is visually pulled into the inner spaces through a wooden deck, thus blurring the indoor-outdoor boundaries.
This impressive loft is located on the 12th floor in the building “Red Apple” in Sofia with a total surface 96 square meters. To reflect the style of the owner, a man with a bohemian and adventurous spirit, the designer need to create a active and artistical place where the owner can display many objects and works of art collected during his travels. The six-meter height in the living room allowed for the construction of an intermediate platform, which is a place for relaxation, meditation, reading and especially for the contemplation of the stunning view of the city. Besides two stunning wall art (“The Secret Garden” and “Urbanus Folklor”), hidden kitchen is another intersting feature of this place.
