There is nothing special about LED lamp or old-fashion lantern. However, when they come together, it might worth taking a look. Balad Collection, as the result of the collaboration of French outdoor furniture company Fermob and designer Tristan Lohner, is a double-duty lamp. Basically, it is a wireless LED portable and chargeable lantern can be hung on lamp-stand or carried around when you need some extra light. Coming in six different colors (verbena, aubergine, fuchsia, storm grey, nutmeg and carrot) and two sizes (small and large), this playful lantern looks like person wearing a set of headphones. It also has two brightness levels – a bright task light and a dimmer ambient light, making it a perfect light source for indoor or outdoor. Simply select the size and color, decide whether to place it or hang it, make it into a lamp for the house or take it with you for a beach party. Like them, you can buy there here.
These intricately detailed lamps were created by Pranaya Design, a Czech Republic based team of two. Josipa is the one who is responsible for the ideas and design, and Jirka, whose knowledge of laser building and operating brought the project to life. The process to create a lamp is as complex as the shadow it casts. It took the pair several months to find the correct parts and assemble the laser-cutting machine, and to find the right light source which can cast such an intricate shadow on the surrounding surface.
Lampster, is a little robot look lamp designed by a couple of San Francisco-based designers. The Robot’s head is from old tractors or bikes, which made out of metal and thick glass! It has two light sources: one is an LED activated by a touch on the Lampsters head, perfect to use when studying or writing at the desk! And the second is a RGB LED, that can be controlled using a mobile device, it can give any color you choose! Moreover, it is can be the life of the party; just sync it to your music and it will flash to the beat. Sounds super cool right? However, the lampster comes with the lowest price of $178. Not sure how much of you want a lamp with that price. But you do, go check on their site.
Emilia Lucht and Arne Sebrantke of German design studio We Love Eames designed an interesting lamp Mygdal Plantlamp that allow greenery to grow inside without the use of direct sunlight and water. They worked closely with glass blower to create the ideal shape for the lamp and the end result is two versions – a pendant lamp and a standing lamp. Both lamps have small plants growing inside and LED light is used to replicated sunlight. The lights are a completely self-sustaining ecosystem, where they claim the plants can grow undisturbed for years. Sounds pretty cool. However, I am not sure how the plant can live without water. Anyway, interesting idea but not quite practical for me.
